Training through the winter
Right, I didn’t update this website for a long time now, so what happend since december 2008? There are two reasons for this, first one is I’m lazy and secondly I didn’t want to post without photos. So anyway this was a pretty mild winter here in Holland with lots of opportunities to paddle.
We’ve seen some good waves rolling in and training was quite consistently 2/3 a week paddling of which 1 time a week in a swimming pool, nice and warm. I’ve been at several spots on the dutch coastline and found way better spots than the one I’ve been to all those years. I love my driver license for this and also the surfers who showed me these spots (thanks Nienke). Now problem is I didn’t took any photos this winter so just some lame ones following here…

Then beginning of march I moved to a/my new place, Leiden. This is way closer to the Whitewater Course DWD so I can train more and on different features now. It’s also close to the ocean en The Hague (best surfbeaches I’ve surfed in the Netherlands so far) where more and more paddlers live. It’s good to be on my own now and finally leaving my old town. Anyway, enough Raoul-in-the-big-city stories now!

So another thing I started last september is fitness which i actually quite interesting (initially I HATE fitness). I do a lot of core stability which is way cooler then anything those bodybuilders do. I should make some photos of it one day..
Then there also was the HISWA (a watersports exhibition) where we did demonstrations in a pool. The fun thing was a wakeboard rope and ramps which we also used for the kayakking and ended up in spectaculair air moves in a pool! Donkeys, Panams etcetera sop much fun!

So right now I’m preparing for my exams next week and then leave for a nice 10 days of creeking in corsica! After this there’s selections for the Worlds in Kuchl and training hard for this. In preparation for the Worlds I booked a flight to Canada in june where I’ll be for almost 6 weeks then!
Okay that’s it for now, next update will be a full on story with photos from the creeks in Corse!
